GERMANY ELIMINATED AFTER A DRAW AGAINST SOUTH KOREA (1-1), FRANCE WILL FACE MOROCCO IN THE ROUND OF 16

After Canada or Brazil, a new contender for the world title leaves the competition from the group stage. Unable to overcome South Korea (1-1), Germany takes the door to everyone's surprise. Winner of Colombia (1-0) in the other Group H match, Morocco takes 2nd place and will face the French team in the round of 16 on August 8 in Adelaide.

Germany takes the door in complete amazement. While aiming for the planetary crown in Oceania, the Germans only drew against South Korea (1-1) on Thursday in Brisbane, during the 3rd day of Group H. It is insufficient for snatch 2nd place in the pool which goes to Morocco, winner of Colombia, also qualified (1-0). The Moroccans will meet the French in the round of 16. The vice-champions of Europe return home prematurely.

After a surprise setback against Colombia (2-1), Germany wanted to react against South Korea, beaten in their last six World Cup matches, including the first two of this 2023 edition in which they had been unable to score. Except that the Koreans entered the game much better. Casey Phair, 16, quickly found the post (3rd). Launched full axis So-Hyun Cho, she perfectly adjusted Merle Frohms after leaving behind a very misaligned German defense (1-0, 6th).

A RELAXED GERMANY

Empowered by this opener, the players of the Englishman Colin Bell showed themselves to be perfectly united in their camp to contain the Germans in dire need of offensive inspiration. The Koreans also remained much more lively throughout the meeting and were able to win many duels by beating their opponents.

Klara Bühl activated on her left wing but was clumsy (12th, 15th). Her teammates purred for a long time and it took until the end of the first period to see Alexandra Popp equalize on a cross from Svenja Huth (1-1, 42nd). The German striker made her aggressiveness speak with a fourth goal in this World Cup, the last.

MOROCCO WITH ANGELS

Despite this sterile game because it was too soft and without ideas, Martina Voss-Tecklenburg did not change anything on the restart. Germany only played towards Popp who was denied another goal for a slight offside (57th) before placing a header on the crossbar (60th). Sarah Däbritz, Lea Schüller or Jule Brand largely disappointed and their team only felt the urgency of the situation in added time as elimination was fast approaching.

It was too little and too late for the finalists of the last Euro, world champions in 2003 and 2007 and second in the FIFA rankings. They fall by the wayside when they had passed the first round at the previous eight World Cups. Morocco, on the other hand, is discovering the competition but will be there for the round of 16 like Colombia. A goal from Guingampaise Anissa Lamahri in the wake of a repelled penalty (45th + 4) was enough to delight the players of Reynald Pedros who will challenge France next Tuesday.
